We change the world.

After getting lost in Internet surfing, I stumbled upon people who met and got married through World of Warcraft.

While it might not seem odd that something like this could happen, since an MMO is after all a huge mass of communication and like-minded people would play it. This little incident might be insignificant to average person, but there is something much more significant.

Without World of Warcraft these 2 people would not have met each other and would most likely have gone there separate ways, probably marrying someone else and perhaps living happily ever after.

As a developer this just makes my hobby/life so much better. Most games these days have a social aspect to it. I “create” something and through it, people meet and their lives change for the better.

Please tell me that isn’t something “wonderful”. To have that feeling that your creation is changing people’s lives.

This of course does not only happen with World of Warcraft. Other creations, like instant messengers have brought people together who would not have met each other any other way.

I started thinking if any of my games (which are all single-player) could have changed people’s lives.

I do not know… but there is one thing I do know, I entertained them. A member of the world took their time to enjoy my game (hopefully). That thought is definitely something that makes game development oh so worth it in the end!

Don’t you as a developer feel the same?

When I had a couple big games in the ’80′s I used to love the idea that somewhere in the world, every minute of the day, hundreds of people were focused on my little works of art.

Can’t wait until I get that feeling again!
