10 Jan 09 My gmail inbox – almost 4 years now

Tags:

With Gmail I don’t delete email “because I don’t have to”.

I now have my trusty gmail account for almost 4 years now and I haven’t deleted a single email (all 4233) of them. It provides a real nifty “slice” of my life on the web during the years.

What was my first email?

I emailed a representative that was responsible for selling World of Warcraft in South Africa asking when it would be available and what the prices would be.

On the 11 of March 2005 I received an email for my first hosting (in my world a historic moment). :)

As I move along I see emails from websites long dead, I see naivety (from my side). I see “benchmark” moments in my life. I see the email I received when they announced that my game won a competition! The only remnants of that victory living here.

There are just so many things that remind of things I did. I love it.

If you have gmail, do you delete it?

  • I never delete my g(mail) because you never know when you might need that old email.

What I do is use the Gmail "archive" feature and archive all old mail so that it doesn't display in my inbox. This way, my inbox is always clean and if I need to find an old mail, I just search for it in the archives :)

No way... I can't believe I've never seen the Archive button. Gosh I feel so stupid now. >_<

    Hey yeah, quite interesting!
  • I used to delete everything until about two, three months ago, when my one internet friend told me he never did. And I wanted to try it. I don't think it has ever helped me, archiving all my mail. But maybe one day I will ask ''hey, what was that other person's name again...?'' and then maybe I will be sad, for the mail containing his name is already gone... or I will rejoice, because I will find the mail in the archive.
